According to The Patent Board’s Heavy Industrial Equipment Patent Scorecard™ published in The Wall Street Journal, Mitsubishi Electric Industries jumps 27 spots to #4
Caterpillar, Inc. (Peoria, Illinois, USA) and Deere & Company (Moline, Illinois, USA) continue their hold on the top two spots due to high patent activity and above average Industry Impact™, and are ranked 1st and 2nd respectively. Caterpillar leads the Patent Scorecard in five of the six Patent Scorecard indicators, with the highest patent count of all companies. Even with a 10% decrease in patent activity for the quarter, the company still holds a commanding lead over #2 Deere. Caterpillar increased its Science Strength™ by 29% and is nearly seven times greater than the next company, Deere, which also increased its Science Strength™ by 11%. These two powerhouses have more patents than all the other eight Top 10 companies added together, and look to continue their dominance for some time to come.
Voith AG (Heidenham, Germany) moves up one spot to 3rd, its highest position ever. A 7% increase in patent activity and above average Industry Impact™ keeps it moving up the Patent Scorecard for another quarter. Breaking into the Top 10 for the first time and moving up 27 spots to 4th is Mitsubishi Electric Corp. (Tokyo, Japan), fueled by a 30% increase in patent activity and a 145% increase in Industry Impact™, which moved from below average to double the industry average in just one quarter.
