The Patent Board tracks seventeen industry scorecards and also creates customized scorecards that provide insight with leading performance indicators for an entire portfolio and its closest competitors, scalable at the technology or business unit level. The Aerospace & Defense industry as a whole see improvements in most of The Patent Board indicators, most notably a 10% increase in patent volume this period, a slight 2% improvement in Industry Impact™ - a quality indicator, and an 18% increase in Science Strength™ demonstrating more attention on core research as an industry. 

Only two new companies joined the Patent Scorecard™ this quarter, the second of which is Lantiq Beteiligungs-GmbH & Co.KG(Neubiberg, Germany) who debuts in the Telecom and Communications Patent Scorecard at 100^th. Lantiq’s leading indicator is Research Intensity™, with 50% more of their portfolio has above average scientific referencing then the industry average. A higher score indicates that the company’s technology is closer to the cutting-edge than its competitors. Lantiq is a supplier of a broad portfolio of analogue, digital and mixed-signal integrated circuits. 

The Telecom & Communications industry had a 12% increase in patent volume this period, a 2% slowing in Innovation Cycle Time™ yet a 2% increase in Industry Impact™. Research Intensity™ continues to slow within the industry with another 4% decrease this period demonstrating less attention of core research as an industry.

Spectrum Brands (Madison, Wisconsin, USA), the maker of Rayovac batteries, moved up 15 spots to 63^rd. Patent count was up 50%, Science Strength™ increased 126%, and Industry Impact™ improved by 47%. It has a new patent for alkaline cells having high capacity. Suez Environment (Paris, France) which made its debut in the last Patent Scorecard™ at 82^nd moves up 15 spots to 67^th. Patent count was up 100%, Industry Impact™ increased by 69% and the company cut 3.8 years off its Innovation Cycle Time™, an improvement of 22%. Suez has a new patent for water treatment process for oilfield produced water.
